Paavo Steinkamp is a man of many interests and pursuits. He might describe himself as a transient self diagnosed sociopath with Asperger's and a set of obsessions. Right now he's making music, completing his first patent application, pursuing more jobs in front of the camera, riding his bike and doing pull-ups. twitter.com/earthmannntwitter.com/5kinAndBone5soundcloud.com/5kinAndBone5

What does 'hipster' mean? It's derogatory... right? Does anyone really care? The word has taken on a multitude of different, often opposing meanings, making 'hipster' essentially meaningless. It has become a vague and accusatory catchall for our angst, confusion, and post- post- post-modern apathy. The overuse of the word has both diluted its meaning and fed its power. What other word is like this? We have not endeavored to define the word but rather to explore it. Think of this as a time capsule - video portraits of people behind the things we call hipster.
American Hipster Presents was filmed over the course of one year from January 2012 through February 2013. Our crew of four spent one week in each city and one day (sometimes an extra half day) with each subject. Eight editors contributed to the project, putting episodes together in 5-7 days based on the weekly release schedule. The 50 episode series was released on YouTube from March 2012 to March 2013.
